When I ask how people’s job journeys are going, the responses I receive are frequently underwhelming.
How many jobs have you recently applied to?
About 5.
Then I think to myself, they must mean they’re applying to 5 jobs daily, which isn’t the best, but also not the worst.
So I follow up with my next question.
How many jobs are you applying to each week?
About 5.
Come on, people.
What serious results do you expect from applying to five jobs a week?
I hope not much.
The Numbers Game Is Optional
I tested the numbers theory and applied to about 100–300 jobs daily.
Yes, it worked, but it was also unnecessary and involved way too many interviews.
You don’t have to play the numbers game.
But I recommend you apply to submit 15 leads per day, which amounts to about 105 leads per week.
If you submit this amount of leads each week, you’re almost guaranteed to have 1–3 interview requests a week based on how well together your candidacy is.
There is about a 1–3% callback rate for jobs.
It’s the same conversion metric for businesses.
3% conversion is your average, and those who receive a higher conversion rate are usually higher-quality businesses or candidates.
What Is A Lead?
Networking: LinkedIn messaging, emailing, and calling recruiting and hiring teams or people who work at companies you’re interested in.
Job Application: A formal job application.
Which Farmer Will Have Bigger Harvest?
Farmer A: Plants 100 seeds
Farmer B: Plants 5 seeds
We all know the answer to this. Why, Farmer A, of course.
Apply the same methodology to your job search.
